At the January 2009 membership meeting, Treasurer Audrey Stearns stated the club had 132 paid members. Bugs Mathieu will again sell Take Pride and Ride raffle tickets at the Derby. The Grand Prize for the raffle was 2009 Ski-Doo MXZ Trail 500. New club members, Marv and Carol Radloff, who own the Bridgewater Inn, were introduced. Jim Ayers gave a report on his crew of map box volunteers – great job, Jim. Miss Sno-Eagle 2009, Nicole Dobbs, was also introduced to the members.
2009 was a good season for snow. Trail Boss Tom stated the groomers needed minor maintenance. The trails were groomed regularly. Bugs sold over $1,000 worth of raffle tickets during the Derby weekend. The Weekend Away theme was Peace Train to the Sixties. Best men’s, women’s and couple’s costumes were awarded at Indian Springs Lodge in Carter, WI. Bob Stencil and Ron Engels were the trail guides. The 60’s party was fun as shown in these photos of the club “hippies.”
During the March election, VP Ken Storms and Treasurer Audrey Stearns were elected along with three directors: Ron Engels, John Peroutky, and Jim Fabish. President Max Rockafellow is working with White Spruce owner Steve Warshauer to organize a Spring Golf Outing and Benefit for the Sno-Eagles. The Sno-Eagles again planned on having a water station for the Journey’s Marathon in May.
The Sno-Eagles did not hold board or membership meetings during the summer months. At the September board meeting, a thank you card was received from the Spiess family. On August 13, Rudy Spiess, a longtime member, active snowmobiler, and one of the club founding members died.
At the September membership meeting Bob Stencil asked for more volunteers to assist with trail brushing on Thursday’s throughout September. Dennis Del Ponte reported that the insulation of the groomer shed ceiling has started and will be completed in September. The club ordered 9,000 trail maps for the season and Jim Ayers and his crew are thanked for a great job. Over the summer Sportsmen’s Chalet held a meat raffle fundraiser for the club. The Sno-Eagles were presented a check for $2,025 for grooming.
At the October membership meeting new members Brian Scheid, Darin Smith and Lois Healy were introduced by Ken Storms.
The Volunteer Appreciation party was held November 1 at Eagle Waters. Bugs announced that the Take Pride and Ride raffle fundraiser will take place again this year. President Max Rockafellow announced the Weekend Away for 2010 will be hosted by Al & Sherrie Mondus and is set for February 12-14 going to Houghton, MI. The club was also recruiting volunteers for the January Vintage and Derby weekends. Jim Fabish was looking for a few volunteers to assist with installing rubber belting on the Hwy. 70 bridge.
The Miss Sno-Eagle pageant will be held in November at Eagle Waters Resort with dinner to follow. Dennis Del Ponte recognized the crew that installed the insulated ceiling in the groomer shed – Vern Kramer, Dennis Kirby, Fred Rockafellow, and Ken Storms. Trail Boss Tom projected a December 15 opening of trails. Ken Storms introduced new members Deana Scheid, Steve Linn, and Mike Errington at the December membership meeting. Club membership was 148 paid members with a goal of 175 members.
