The Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club recently conducted a Wisconsin DNR snowmobile safety class in Eagle River. Instruction was provided by WDNR-certified instructors Carole Linn and John Wilhelm. Chris Wilhelm organized and coordinated the class.
The students learned the basics of snowmobiling. They received instruction on snowmobile parts and function, protective gear, environmental protection, being respectful and courteous, riding positions, responsible riding, group riding, trail etiquette, emergencies and survival, ice safety, and what to do when encountering a groomer on the trail. WDNR Conservation Warden, Tim Price, discussed Wisconsin Snowmobile Laws with the students.
Two snowmobiles were utilized as training aids during the one-and-a-half-day course. This “hands-on” approach has been one of the successes of the class, allowing the students to work closely with instructors in small groups while learning about snowmobile parts and operation. John Wilhelm and Jim Gribble provided the hands-on activities.
The Town of Lincoln donated use of their community room for the class venue.
Eagle Baking donated kringles, and several local restaurants—Buckshot’s Saloon and Eatery, Sweetwater Spirits and Resort, and JJ’s House of Dogs—provided lunch. Each establishment donated pizzas for the class. Kwik Trip donated soda, Trig’s donated water, and Kickback Grill donated ice.
All students earned their snowmobile safety certificates.
