The December 2001 the Club Christmas party was held at the Eagle River Inn with the wonderful news being Kelsey Hess was selected Miss Sno-Eagle for 2002.

In January 2002, volunteers from the Sno-Eagles, as well as Miss Sno-Eagle Kelsey, helped out at the Derby. The club also gave Jim Fabish a check for $200 in support of MS in Wisconsin. The January 2002 membership meeting was held at Eagle Waters and was a pasta party fundraiser for the club which raised $500 for the trails.

Eagle Waters Resort hosted the pasta party for over 100 people. Jeff and Laura Koranda (right), owners of Eagle Waters Resort, presented the check to Irene Range. Also present were Don Range and Jane VanDyke

On January 30, Rudy Spiess, a long-time member of the Sno-Eagles club, was featured in a Vilas County News Review article explaining that the winter of 2002 was the mildest he has seen in his lifetime. Rudy was born in 1919 and the 82 year-old Rudy told the News that the groomers have not groomed at all this year. Hopefully, we will get some snow in February. Rudy also commented that January was the first time since 1966 that the club missed an entire month of grooming.

In March 2002, the proceeds from the Take Pride and Ride raffle were dispersed to clubs. Take Pride and Ride is the newest raffle fundraiser for the Sno-Eagles as well as other local snowmobile clubs. The raffle was sponsored by radio station WRJO and Trackside with the 2002 raffle being the third year for this fundraiser.

Receiving checks were, from left, Diane Hallis, Phelps Sno-Mo-Beelers; Tom Tomlanovich, Headwaters Trails; Gary Frank, Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club; Larry Dorich, Hodag Snow Trails; Les Brown, Frosty Snowmobile Club; Al Andreotti, Cross Country Cruisers; Max Rockafellow; and Jeff Litscher, WRJO
At the June meeting the officers were concerned about volunteers as the club was still seeking members to help with the July 4th parade, the summer picnic, and the fair refreshment booth. Jerry Tahtinen organized the picnic that was held at Eagle Waters Resort. Meat was provided by the club, and everyone brought a dish to pass.

The annual hayride was cancelled. Nancy Tahtinen and Audrey Stearns are selling sweatshirts and t-shirts for the Sno-Eagles.

The annual elections were held in October. Jerry Tahtinen was elected President, Rudy Spiess VP, Audrey Stearns Treasurer, and Jean Walker Secretary. Jim Fabish, Mac McCoy, Don Range, Wayne Zelinski, and Don Goldschmidt were elected directors.

The Ayers’ and the Bucher’s will host the Weekend Away scheduled for January 31-February 2 at the Comfort Suites in Hayward.

The Snowmobile Safety course was held on December 5 at the Lincoln Town Hall with 22 young snowmobilers.

The annual Christmas party was hosted by Ed & Donna Richter at Pine-Aire, and it was a blast.

The December board meeting was held at Jerry’s house. Headwaters Trails was invited as they apparently have complaints on how much money they receive from the Sno-Eagles. The meeting lasted 3 ½ hours with no decision, and a long debate. The one big issue was that Headwaters Trails ran out of money and did no grooming in January. The Sno-Eagles were struggling with membership, volunteers, as well as Headwaters Trails issues.
